Question 1

Why convert a PDF before sending it to Kindle?

Accepted Answer

Kindle will open a PDF as a fixed page. You cannot grow the type without zooming that page. An EPUB extracts the words so Kindle can reflow them.

Question 2

Do you email the EPUB to my Kindle?

Accepted Answer

No. Download it, then use Amazon's Send to Kindle page or your own Send-to-Kindle address.

Question 3

Is the Kindle download a PDF or an EPUB?

Accepted Answer

An EPUB 3 file. We do not write a special Kindle PDF.

Question 4

What is the difference between Kindle and generic EPUB here?

Accepted Answer

Both are EPUB 3. Kindle uses CSS aimed at e-ink. Generic EPUB uses more typical ebook styling.

Question 5

What do Auto, Reflowable, and OCR-if-needed do?

Accepted Answer

Auto extracts text, then runs local Tesseract on scan-like pages. Reflowable uses only extracted text. OCR-if-needed is the same OCR fall-through as Auto.

Question 6

Will my Kindle show a chapter table of contents?

Accepted Answer

If the PDF has an outline, we use it. If not, we look for larger heading type. Documents with neither become one continuous book.

Question 7

Can I convert a scanned PDF for Kindle?

Accepted Answer

Yes with Auto or OCR-if-needed. Magazine columns will be weaker than a dedicated desktop converter.

Question 8

Does PDF to Kindle upload my book?

Accepted Answer

Conversion stays in the browser, including optional OCR. We never send the file to Amazon for you.

Question 9

Will printed page numbers appear in the EPUB?

Accepted Answer

We strip repeated headers, footers, and print page numbers when we can detect them.

Question 10

Should I use Dark Mode instead of PDF to Kindle?

Accepted Answer

Use Dark Mode if you want a dark PDF. Use this page if you want reflow on a Kindle.

Question 11

Does this overwrite the original PDF?

Accepted Answer

No. You download a new EPUB.
